United Way has joined National Voter Registration Day, the largest one-day effort to register voters in the US.
More than 2,000 organizations across the country will join forces on September 27, 2016 to implement grassroots voter registration programs in an effort to ensure every eligible voter has an opportunity to register and vote in the 2016 election.
National Voter Registration Day was founded in 2012 in response to over six million Americans reporting that they didn’t vote as a result of missing the registration deadline or not knowing how to register.
NVRD is led by a diverse, non-partisan group including MTV, the League of Women Voters, Bus Federation, Rock the Vote, Voto Latino, Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA), Fair Elections Legal Network, Nonprofit VOTE, , former Elections Administrator in Arizona Tammy Patrick, Secretary of State John Merrill (R- AL) and Secretary of State Steve Simon (D -MN). Also lending their support of the day includes Tumblr, MTV, HeadCount, Etsy and Independent Journal Review.
